Poetry with Mrs. Ball
Today, Rebecca Ball came to our poetry class and read The Butterfly’s Ball, and the Grasshopper’s Feast by poet and abolitionist William Roscoe. Roscoe’s poem (written in 1806) inspired Alan Aldridge and William Plomer (both equality advocates in their own countries of England and South Africa) to create a stunning picture and poetry book with the same name over 160 years later. The poems, rich in figurative language and as intricate with words as they are playful, provided yet another example to our class of the joy of poetry. Thank you, Mrs. Ball, for sharing some of your favorite poetry with us!
